A Moment of Calm

Need a little more calm today? Whatever it is that bothers you, there's a way to greater calm. You may like to enjoy a moment of calm right now. This is an offering of greater ease, that may leave you feeling fresher than when you started. This simple mindfulness exercise, inspired by the practice of Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh, can soothe your nervous system, nourish your emotions and release tension: As you read the following phrase inwardly, simply breathe in slowly with the first line, and breathe out deeply with the second line. As you smile warmly, you can generate a feeling of self-appreciation:

"Breathing in, I am aware of my heart. Breathing out, I smile warmly to my heart." You may like to place a hand on your heart as you do this practice. You can also simplify the phrase to: "In, aware of my heart, Out, smiling warmly."

Whatever you are aware of in your heart and mind, let a feeling of warmth and compassion expand to hold it. Be with it. Smile for youself, a small smile of non-fear.
